Eric Yeldon

Robyn Guyton’s parents were among the first settlers at Wittenoom in 1943. Robyn’s father Eric Yeldon was employed by Australian Blue Asbestos as the original administrator of the mine and had the job of preparing the site for the mining operation.

Ironically there was also a family connection when the mine was closed down. Here she describes what life was like for her parents in the early years of the establishment of Wittenoom.

    In 1974 Eric Yeldon died after experiencing years of ill health caused by lung problems. However the family’s suffering was increased by the fact that the authorities never put a name to his illness. Without acknowledgement of the link to asbestos exposure the family never knew what caused his death, and were denied any chance of compensation.
