Australian Mesothelioma Register
The Australian Mesothelioma Surveillance Program was set up in NSW in 1980 and ran until 1985, to be replaced in 1986 by the Australian Mesothelioma Register.
Under these programs data was collected on all cases of mesothelioma recorded in Australia in order to track numbers of cases, where the cases occurred, and the occupational links of the sufferers.

In the 1980s Dr Ashraf Grimwood worked with Professor David Ferguson and Dr Rebecca Thomson on the newly established Mesothelioma Register. This involved interviewing sufferers and relatives of those who had fallen victim to the disease in an attempt to trace the pattern of exposure. Here he explains the interview process.
