Will my GP refer me to a specialist?

If your medical history and your test results indicate that you have an asbestos-related disease, your GP will refer you to a specialist.

Do I have a choice of specialists?

Your GP will discuss the specialists available in your area and you will be able to decide whom to see.

How long will it take to see a specialist?

This can vary depending upon the specialists’ availability, however your GP will make every effort to ensure that you are seen as soon as possible.

What is the interaction between my GP and treating specialists?

Your GP’s relationship with your treating specialists is a totally inclusive one.  Your GP will always receive copies of your test results and your medical reports, and will be kept up-to-date on your progress from your treating specialists.

How do GPs communicate with other doctors? How is information shared?

Your GP will communicate with your treating specialist by phone or letter. All medical information will be shared by all of your doctors so that they can continue to provide you with the best possible care.
