Paul Zimmerman

Associate Professor Paul Zimmerman is the Chief Investigator on the NCARD grant investigating the early detection of lung cancer and mesothelioma in asbestos workers at highest risk, by early interventional CT scanning.

A/Prof Zimmerman is the Director of the Department of Thoracic Medicine at the Prince Charles Hospital, Brisbane, overseeing, coordinating and facilitating provisions of clinical governance, as well as mentoring colleagues facilitating & supporting their teaching and research. He is also the Chair of the Thoracic Medicine Program based at Prince Charles Hospital, as well as holding an Associate Professor appointment in the Department of Medicine at the University of Queensland.
As a clinician A/Prof Zimmerman manages many patients with respiratory infection, and has much research experience in the field of airway and other respiratory diseases. As a researcher, A/Prof Zimmerman is investigating whether genetic differences place some asbestos exposed individuals at higher risk of developing asbestos related malignancies.

 

He has collaborated on over 50 papers, eight of these as 1st author and has received several awards for his contribution as a clinician and scientist, including an international achievement.
