What Patients Should Know

This section of the site – What patients should know – introduces Professor Bruce Robinson, the director of the National Centre for Asbestos Related Diseases (NCARD) and is a world leader in asbestos research.

In this section of the site, Professor Robinson discusses a range of issues including diagnosis and treatment of asbestos-related diseases. Visitors to the site are able to click onto a question and play a short video clip of Professor Robinson discussing the topic.  The information provided is designed to complement, not replace, the relationship between a patient and his/her own physician.

Professor Robinson’s work has been recognised with awards including the Research Medal of the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand 2008 (for research leadership in Australia), the Premier’s Science Award for Lifetime Achievement 2004, the international Wagner Medal 2004 and the Eric G Saint Award 1996 for contributions to research into asbestos-related diseases.
